Weekend Recap: HC Homecoming

As most of our fall weekends do, this one revolved around football.  I don't know that I could think of a much better way to spend a weekend this time of year (ok an all-expense trip to Europe or a secluded beach could beat it but we all know that's not likely).  This weekend in particular was quite wonderful since it was Homecoming at our Alma Mater, Huntingdon College...where we met =) and we were most excited to get back to campus to spend time with old friends.

We had to get through a tough game on Friday night first. THS played one of the top teams in the state. We were playing @ their place where they have not lost a game in 5 years.  We quickly realized why that was.  Yes they were a VERY good team, but they had a bit of help from some wiley zebras. It was a back and forth game but every time we stopped them on defense they threw a flag on us.  We got the ball back with 2mins to go and were only down by 8 and it became quite clear that we were not going to be allowed to win the game.  1st play, we threw the ball and got a fist down, next play they called holding.  Then it was 1st and 20 and we threw for another 1st down, next play they call holding.  Then we threw the ball and it went through our receivers hands and the defender picks it up off the ground.  They rule it a fumble...game over and they win 42-34.  It was ridiculous.  It was very apparent that we never had a chance. We want them again so bad we can't stand it.  If things work out there is a VERY good chance we'll get them again in the play offs. They better BRING IT!

We were up and going first thing Saturday even though it was well past mid night before we went to sleep.  It was Homecoming @ HC and we headed to Montgomery for all of the festivities.  One of our good friends was the first football player (the program is only 9 years old) to be inducted into the HC Athletic Hall of Fame.  It was a very nice ceremony and they had a really nice turnout.

After the ceremony we headed over to the football field to watch our Hawks take on Ave Maria University.  It was 35-0 Hawks at halftime and we came very close to heading out at halftime because it was so humid. We were drenched with sweat even though the sun was not out.  Luckily Eric had an extra shirt in the car and we stayed.  The final was 42-21 and I am pretty sure we played the 2nd and 3rd strings the entire 2nd half.

Saturday night we did up some BBQ nachos with some friends and watched the first half the the Bama game that started @ midnight (ok not midnight but 8:15pm is waaaaaay too late to start a game in my opinion).  Bama had it under control by halftime so we made our way outside to the carport to hang out for a while.  It was way past my bed time past 1AM by the time everyone went home which meant we did not get in bed until nearly 2AM.  The next time I opened my eyes it was 10:30AM....... 10:30!  I dont think I have slept in until 10:30 since high school or college.  We slept through Eric's alarm, and my alarm.  I am still shocked the dogs did not wake us up before then...but I guess they were up as late as we were.

Since we did not get up until lunchtime I ended up staying in my pjs nearly all day. It. Was. Glorious.  It was rainy outside so there was no reason to want to go do anything.  I sat on the couch, watched movies, and played on my computer.  I decided around 4PM that I was hungry and wanted to make pretzels.  I've never made pretzels before, but I found a recipe on pinterest and had all of the ingredients so I decided it was imperative that I made them. While my dough was rising, the Honey Mustard recipe Mom sent with some Penzey's spices last week was calling my name, so I whipped up a batch of it. I cannot WAIT to make some chicken tenders this week to dunk in it.  But in the meantime I made do with my pretzels....they were fabulous dunked in it.

I came very close to not putting on actual clothes all day.  Eric wanted to ride to Montgomery to pick up a few things and I needed a couple of things from Walmart so I tagged along (our Walmart where we live closes at 6pm on Sundays...it's tragic). We were laughing as we were going into the store because I am pretty sure the last time we went into Walmart together was right after he got back from his military tour in the desert (in 2009) and we decided to grocery shop together.  We ended up arguing about nearly everything that the other one picked up and have not grocery shopped together since. Let's just say we have completely opposite opinions about how to purchase food and general household items.  I shop carefully for certain items/prices/deals, while he likes to throw whatever in the cart (mainly brand name things that are not on sale). I felt like I was shopping with a little kid that wanted EVERYTHING they saw.  This is why I do all of the grocery shopping myself and I prefer it that way.

I guess I have no choice now but to start my Monday.  It's off to a fabulous start so far.  We had a tornado warning at 4:15am this morning and apparently Eric's phone has a weather alarm on it that goes off whenever there is a warning....regardless of the time.  To add to the fun this morning, I grabbed an old bottle of creamer to put in my coffee that looked like spoiled milk when I poured it in my cup.  The good news it I only gagged for a minute.  I'm headed down to Chik-fil-a to get a cup of java to get me going....hmmmmm and maybe a chicken biscuit?!  This Monday is looking better already!

My 1st Wearable Sewing Project

A few weeks ago I saw a really cute maxi skirt tutorial on pinterest and decided I needed to pull my sewing machine out of the attic and make one.  I also went to the effort of purchasing material and a few other things to complete it.  I set them in our office and left them there......for about 3 weeks...because I was too lazy to move my car back 10 feet so I could get into the attic to get my sewing machine.

Sunday I went to my BIL & SIL's house for a little while and I was completely inspired.  She had been sewing up a storm and made about 10 different dresses.  They were all sooooo cute!  She had maxi dresses and shirt dresses in every color and pattern you could imagine.  She showed me the tutorial that she used and I immediately decided that my maxi skirt was now going to be a dress.  I pulled out the sewing machine when I got home Sunday and picked up a bright red tank top (and a few others) Monday after work.

And then last night I got to sewing.  I'm not going to lie, all of the cutting made me nervous.  I am a bit OCD when it comes to things being lined up and straight so I had this fear that I was going to end up with a crooked dress with holes in it and random seams going all over the place.  The only snag I hit (no pun intended) was after I sewed the top to the bottom the first time, the dress hit me at really awkward middle-of-my-knees length....not cute.  I patiently seam-ripped the entire top off the bottom (my eyes were crossing by the time I finished), and cautiously cut another 3-4 inches off the skirt. I sewed it back together and voila! I had a super cute dress!  I started out using this tutorial and used her technique for sewing everything (and using the elastic thread!) but also used this one for a little bit of clarification on folding the shorter version of the dress (the 1st one was a maxi and I got a bit confused at the beginning when she was talking about folding--maybe if I were a more experienced sewer it would have been fine).

It's a pretty basic dress, but I added a belt and some accessories and I had a super cute outfit! I think I impressed Eric, too!  He asked me when I was going to make a purple and yellow one for THS games.

I am that girl who likes to wear new stuff as soon as I possibly can so I am wearing this bad boy to work today. =) I wore it with my heels and added a cardigan since my office temp is comparable to Antarctica.

I have a feeling that my closet will soon be full of lots of cute tank dresses in the very near future!  I have 2 old curtains I made to cover doorways when I lived in an apartment that I found when I pulled my sewing machine down that I will soon be wearing!

P.S.  Please say a prayer for our little Cricket girl....we think she got bumped by a car yesterday and had a pretty bad road rash.  She is pretty roughed up but we're taking good care of her. She's a fighter!

I'm an Impulse Buyer (But it only when it comes to food)

....especially when I am in Costco on my way home from work and I am hungry.

Several items happened to jump in my cart on this particular trip including a Tortellini Pasta Salad (I can have it for lunch this week), some frozen pot stickers (they were sampling them), and then as I was looking for our favorite pita chips I stumbled upon Beer Chips.  Kettle Cooked Beer Chips.  Naturally I had to purchase them because we HAD to try them.

I was a bit skeptical but they were really good!  They had a sweet flavor to them, but the first bite had a subtle but unmistakable beer flavor to it. You can't beat a good kettle cooked potato chip in my opinion.

The packaging was great too.  Someone had a lot of fun coming up with what to put on the bag.

I guess I've seen it all now.  At least they're tasty!

Fall is here!

What a difference a 10 days makes...

This the ONLY part of fall I am not looking forward to.  My mood is extremely dependent upon the sun being out when I leave for work and when I come home.  But I am very happy about the cooler weather!
