Weekend Recap

I am pretty sure making me come back to work after such a beautiful weekend is some form of cruel and unusual punishment.  Luckily we have an even more fun weekend to look forward to, so all I have to do is get through the next 5 days...luckily I should be pretty busy which I am hoping will make the time fly!

So this weekend....we could not have asked for more beautiful weather.  The humidity around here is still holding off which is making for some pretty incredible days and really nice evenings.  We spent the entire weekend outside and it was glorious!

1. Friday night dinner...a BLP (bacon, lettuce, and pickles--don't knock it til you try it) in a pita pocket...with the cutest photobomber licking his chops and hoping something to fall out of it.
2. The coaches in between quarters in the longest football jamboree in the history of the world.  There were four teams and they each played 4 quarters (3 varsity and 1 JV), which meant we ended played 7 quarters of football.  I enjoyed when we were playing but there were 2 stretches where we had to watch 2 quarters of other teams playing in between when we played that seemed to last forever.  The good news is we played well, again 3-7A teams (we're just 5A), which will really help the team out in the long run.
3. The grocery store where I get flowers from in town has had some really pretty flowers this year and this weekend I got suckered into getting some more, but who could resist those sunflowers!  They are absolutely gorgeous! I am going to have to re-pot them this week since the pots they are in are pretty small and have already blown over a couple of times. Apparently I was not the only one who liked them because I saw them all over town this weekend...a neighbor's house, another friends' house, and even at church!
4. This, my friends, is what true happiness looks like.  I was cleaning out the laundry room Saturday morning and put Hawk's trash bag of tennis balls that Mom gave him last fall on the back porch not thinking about the fact that the dogs were out there since I was cleaning.  I went back outside a little while later to find him surrounded by tennis balls with the goofiest smile on his face.
5. The pool is open and ready for some summer fun this year!  It was a bit cold after the rain and chilliness we had last week so I would not recommend jumping in unless you have a fur coat (like Hawk), but it was a pretty backdrop for laying out for sure!
6. Not to be outdone by his brother, Peanut stole several of Hawks balls and had a nice little stash built up by the time I was done cleaning.
7. I wish I could say that I had this kind of talent.  We hosted a graduation party for a family friend Saturday night and they had this made for her.  Apparently there's a lady who charges $30 for these in town.  I was super impressed and I've decided I need to learn to do this.
8. I guess it was the summery feel to the weekend that made me start craving my favorite dip of all time...Tex Mex Dip.  So I made it and all was right with the world.
9. We cooked out Sunday evening with the neighbors (and brought the Tex Mex).  I had my first Costco hot dog and it was delicious!  It tasted just like a Nathan's Hot Dog, but for a Costco price! And don't you agree the plate is smiling?

Not pictured (but worth mentioning): a clean house and perfectly manicured yard, puppy dog walks, a crawfish boil, and a Sunday afternoon nap on the porch that is quickly becoming one of my favorite Sunday afternoon activities.

...and now it's Monday and it's all over.  But the good news is the weekend is only 5 days away!

High Five for Friday

Softball started up this week for me (I had to miss last week's game because of the recital).  I spent Monday afternoon getting all of my stuff together that I had not touched since last summer.  We'd just settled down to watch some SVU when Eric got a call at 7:30 from one of our teammates asking where we were.  He'd told me our next game was Tuesday at 7:30, but apparently he was mistaken.  After a couple of minutes of asking our teammate if he was joking another one of our teammates got on the phone and we realized this was real life.  We were in the car on our way to the field about 30 seconds later and made it across town just as our team was coming up to bat in the bottom of the 1st.  I still can't believe we made it.  I was the 3rd batter and made it just in time to step up to the plate and hit a single over 2nd base. For the record we checked Eric's phone on the way to the game and the text clearly said we played Monday at 7:30. Thankfully I am now in possession of a schedule and reminded our teammates that any correspondence about times and dates needs to come to me, and not Eric.  I love him to death but the boy can't remember dates (unless they have to do with fishing or hunting) to save his life.

I call this a NOPE tree.

Wednesday we had crazy heavy rain showers come through.  It started raining about lunchtime and rained all night long...I think we ended up with something like 3 inches of rain which resulted in having to let some water out of the pool because it was about to overflow.  I am not sure if it was due to the rain or what but one of our trees decided to give up.  We have two huge oak trees in our front yard that are the most awesome source of shade on our house in the morning hours.  One of these trees was actually two as one tree was growing up around the other one.  On Wednesday it decided to give up.  Luckily it did no give up and fall through the bedroom window; it fell more to the side.  But we we now have a huge oak tree to cut up in the front yard....any one need firewood?

Ice Cream...it does a body good.

Since it was a rainy day and Eric could not go fishing after practice, we had ourselves a date night.  The plan was to go eat at Bonefish Grill (one of our favorite places) and then go to see The Neighbors.  I checked the movie times the day before and saw a 7pm show and a 9pm show. Having to drain the pool put us back about 30 minutes which meant we definitely were not going to be able to catch the 7pm show.  On a whim I decided to check the movie times right before we pulled up at the restaurant and found they had added an 8pm movie and moved the 9pm show to 9:30pm.  I assured Eric we could get in and out of Bonefish in less than an hour and have no trouble catching the 8pm show....I knew for a fact I would not make it through the 9:30 show.  We got right in and within 10 minutes had our bread and Bang Bang Shrimp, but that's when the efficiency ended.  I didn't think much about it was 7:40 until the guy beside us who came in about 15 minutes after us got his food.  I told Eric that the crash we'd heard in the kitchen a little while earlier had to have been our food and I was right.  10 minutes later a manager came out and told us my tuna had been dropped on the floor as they were bringing it out, one the one night we had to get out of there quickly.  By the time we left it was a little after 8, and we decided to table the movie for another night....on the bright side they comped some of our meal and we went to get ice cream cones on the way home instead so the night still turned out pretty sweet!

We've had some visitors in our house this past week.  I saw a mouse scurry across the floor last weekend.  When I told Eric he said it was no big deal, we live in the country and mice are just part of it.  While I was not thrilled with his response, as long as I did not see it or his poops I was going to assume he'd gone back out the way he came in.  That is until I started finding evidence that he was crawling around the kitchen counters helping himself to whatever he could find.  After finding a chip bag with a hole in it I decided it was time for him to go.  I stopped by the store yesterday and bought some mouse traps.  And by 9:00pm last night our house was mouseless.  I was sitting in the living room and heard a pop, but made Eric check it when he got home because I had no desire to see it.  Of course he took the liberty of taking a picture and sending it to me on my phone before he disposed of it.  Who knew that catching a mouse in a trap could bring someone so much joy.

We're getting a little taste of fall this evening as THS plays in their spring football jamboree.  I will be in the stands cheering them on in some delightfully fall-like weather.  Usually I am all excited about football but this year it seems more of an afterthought. I need to get through some summer time before I start thinking about fall again!

Recital Weekend Recap

Monday is off to a typical start...Eric left the key to his work truck in my car this weekend so I have already had to go meet him to give it to him so he could work today.  Let's hope the rest of the week goes a little smoother!

I am happy to report that I made it through the weekend!  By the time recital day rolled around on Saturday I think I was running on pure adrenaline.  The recitals were a smashing success!  The girls danced so well and I think everyone enjoyed them. We had everything cleaned up and were home by 10:30pm Saturday night which I am pretty sure is a record.  I came home to a carport full of people because Eric had cooked up some crayfish since his brother and his wife were in town.  We had a blast, despite the fact that yours truly was absolutely exhausted. On Mother's Day we slept in and went to spend a little time with Eric's Mom and Grandma. My goal on Sunday afternoon was to do as little as possible aside from a wonderful Mother's Day chat with my parents. I had aspirations of getting Monday's dinner together but that didn't happen and I am hoping my crockpot does it's job today so we'll have something to eat.

1. Friday's hair.  I have been experiemtning with French  braiding my own hair lately and I was very excited about this one I did on Friday.
2. Our beautiful backdrop on the stage.  We opted for an all-inclusive backdrop this year instead of a bunch of props which made for a super easy clean up...yay!
3. I clearly wasn't the only one exhausted on Saturday.
4. This would be Peanut's "I know I shouldn't be up here, but I did it anyway" face.
5. Sunday afternoon snuggles with my Hollow-Man.
6. I had several new garden pretties bloom this weekend.  I'd forgotten about this one until I saw it yesterday!
7. I have been waiting all spring for this baby to bloom.  This is one of our tea olive trees and they have the most fragrant little white flowers on them. They usually bloom in late April but were a few weeks behind this year because of the cold spring we had.
8. What better way to cap off a wonderful weekend than a big plate of BBQ nachos!?

On top of the exciting weekend we had I can finally let out a secret I've been keeping for a couple of months:

I'm going to be an AUNT!  

My brother-in-law and his wife are expecting a baby boy in October and I am beyond excited for them!  If you need me this summer I'll be in the little boys sections at Target and Old Navy shopping for cute little boy clothes!  I cannot wait to spoil him rotten!

Let's get this week started!

It's Almost Time.....

Apparently the key to making your weeks go by faster is to pack as much as possible into them, making your days extra long, thus making them run together and BOOM all of a sudden it's Friday.  That's been my week in a nutshell.  Eric and I have seen each other just in passing most days.  He's been fishing EVERY MORNING this week which means he get's up at 1-2am, fishes until 8am, goes to work, then spring football practice, a quick workout and he's in bed by 8pm.  I, on the other hand, am rolling out of bed around 5:30am, going to work until 3:30pm, then straight to dance rehearsals until 8-8:30pm, putting me at home just in time to kiss him goodnight, and then I've been up for at least another couple of hours doing things around the house.  If you're keeping up with that, the most time we've spent together is 2-3 hours a night and we're both asleep.  Thankfully this schedule is not the norm!   I am looking forward to things calming down next week for me and the following week for him when spring practice is over.

As busy has it's been, I have enjoyed every minute of this crazy week and I cannot wait for the dance recitals on Saturday!

High Five for Friday

Apparently the secret to quick work weeks is a four day work week, plus only having to be in the office 3 of those days.  Can I have another, please?  Let's get to it.

1.

If I could have swapped my week next week for this past week that would have been great because next week is recital week!  The culmination of 8 months of hard work with our girls is coming to an end.  Last night we had our last in-studio rehearsal, next week will be dress rehearsal, and Saturday is showtime!  It may sound crazy but I still get really excited and anxious before the shows start.  You'd think that since I'm not dancing I wouldn't care, but I do!

I had a little Target shopping to do yesterday afternoon so I stopped by after work to tackle my list.  Right before I checked out I pulled up my Cartwheel App on my phone which I have had downloaded for several months but have never used at the store.  I scanned all of the items in my cart and nearly everything I had in it had a 5-10% discount coupon that I could apply toward my purchase. I realize that 10% on a $1.89 box of tooth picks isn't a whole lot, but it's better than nothing.  I think I ended up with $4-$5 in savings from the app, plus the $5 off laundry supplies mobile coupon I texted for while I was in the store, which was not too shabby.  It was enough to justify purchasing the black and white striped flats I found on clearance. =)  Now if I can just remember to use it while I'm there!

3.

We did some pizza experimentation this week. When we were at the beach last weekend we had a BBQ chicken pizza from a pizza place called Rotolo's that had cheddar cheese on it.  I am not a mozzarella cheese purist when it comes to pizzas obviously, but the thought of putting cheddar on a pizza never really occurred to me.  Long story short...it was amazing and we will most likely be recreating it tonight for dinner.  I wanted to try one earlier in the week that did not involve defrosting and cooking chicken so I decided to recreate their "Sweep the Floor" Pizza: pepperoni, bacon, cheddar, feta, and Parmesan with traditional pizza sauce. Oh my was it good.  Not necessarily a combination I would have put together on my own, but I make it again.  The moral of this story is next time you make a pizza, put cheddar on it, and bacon...because bacon makes everything better. The end.

4.

My LDL isn't actually 0, but it was lower than their machine would calculate. Based on my other numbers, an online LDL calculator told me it was somewhere around 49 mg/dl.  The nurse told me I should hang my screening form on the fridge because it was an A+...lol

Luckily all of that pizza isn't wreaking havoc on my health as I found out today.  I did my annual health screening at work, which is the closest thing I get to a regular doctors checkup every year.  =) If it weren't for this work requirement for my insurance I would be completely clueless on my health stats.  Since I studied health in college this kind of stuff has always intrigued me, and it's nice knowing where I stand. I will admit those cholesterol medicine commercials with the perfectly healthy people that crash and burn when they show their cholesterol levels have always freaked me out.  Eric and I eat healthy most of the time (we like the occasional homemade pizza and allow ourselves a splurge on the weekends) and we're both very active, but you just never know. My screening is just a little reassurance that I'm ok (at least my arteries are).

EDIT:  I came across a #5 this afternoon....Girl Meets World has an official release date!!!  Don't bother trying to reach me on June 27 at 8:45pm.  I will be enjoying the company of some of my favorite tv characters that I grew up with. =)
