I Wish I Could Say April Fools After This

So yesterday the best April Fools Day joke I could come up with was needing a weekend after a one day work week, and I said I would try to come up with something better. Well I did. But unfortunately it's not a joke....it really happened and my poor little toes are paying the price.

It all started with some Jimmy Dean Breakfast Delights for Eric. He called me at work and asked me to pick some up for him on my way home. No prob, I had to run by Costco and get dog food anyway. Costco was no help and I am afraid does not carry them any more. Instead of fighting my way though Walmart (I would rather gauge my eyes out) I figured I could swing by Winn Dixie on my way home and pick some up there.

As I walked into Winn Dixie I was finishing up a phone call with mom, I walked into the store and headed directly back to the frozen foods. As Mom and I were saying our goodbyes, I rounded the corner to walk to the back of the store.....and the next thing I knew I was on the floor trying to pull my dress down to avoid flashing the manager and a few other shoppers who were in the vicinity. I think I was somewhat in shock for that first couple of minutes or so. They asked me if I was ok, and the only thing that hurt was my foot. I looked down and realized I had several cuts on my toes.

I guess they had a leaky freezer that they were in the process of cleaning up. When I came around the corner I saw a guy mopping something up the next aisle over and distinctly remember choosing the aisle I went down because it was clear. There was nothing but a messy puddle of slush that you could not see unless you were looking for it.....there was no caution sign on the floor either! They guy who was mopping moved it over AFTER I got up. When I slipped, my feet came out from under me and my left foot hit the side of the freezer bin, which caused the scrapes. The manager lady who just happened to be at the other end of the aisle was helping me up almost immediately after it happened. I had to fill out an incident report and they told me that if I end up going to see a doctor or anything (which won't happen) to let them know. I am also going to get a call from their corporate office to follow up in a week or so. I will definitely let them know about the lack of caution signs where I slipped.

So now I have a bruised ego and bum foot with some scraped up toes right when the weather is getting nice enough to wear sandals....perfect! On the bright side at least it's warm enough I can wear sandals. I am just glad I was not wearing heels this afternoon. I usually bring a pair of flats to change into when I know I had some errands to run after work so I don't have to wear my heels. Since it's been cold I have not brought anything to change into lately. Today was the first day I had brought any with me to change into. I can only imagine how much worse it could have been if I'd been wearing them instead of my sandals.

Like I said, I wish I were making this story up, but I'm not:
My poor little piggies, and the hidden slick spot after the guy swept it into a pile.

The icing one the cake? They didn't even have the @$*# breakfast sandwiches!

Weekend Recap

Let me tell you I that weekend was right on time....After that crazy one day work week I put in last week I really needed those 2 days off.

Top Row: Little monsters in the backseat on the way to Eric's moms house...Hawk got to ride on the back of the truck.    BBQ nachos.....a sensible portion (that would be an oxymoron). Middle Row: Easter nails. I have not lost my couponing abilities!  Saved more than I spent at Publix on Friday....score! Bottom: A game of tug-o-war Saturday morning.

Ok so I guess that's my weak attempt at an April Fool's Joke. I will work on it.  I can't say that I hated having a weekend coming only after one day of work last week, I am a fan and a supporter of any and all days off work that start with S and end with Y.

Since we'd been out of town for several days I didn't have too much planned aside from clean my house (that had not been cleaned in a couple of weeks....yikes!).  We started off our weekend with a birthday get-together for some friends.  I was a good time, although I was distracted by the NCAA tournament games going on inside. I managed to pull Ohio State through on Friday, only to have them fall to Wichita State on Sunday......oh well, if my team has to lose, I would rather it be an upset because at least it's exciting.

Eric was up a couple of hours before the crack of dawn to go catch some fish.  He promised one of his friends some fish to cook for his family for Easter.  The only problem is that we are currently out fish.....*GASP*....and have been since Eric cooked for a church in town a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately the fish have not been biting so far this year, so he was on a mission to catch some on Saturday. My happy butt slept in until the dogs decided I needed to get up, which meant they were barking at me and jumping at me around 7am.  I obliged and dragged my butt out of bed to take them out.

I spent most of my Saturday cleaning, doing laundry, and doing as little as possible otherwise.  It was glorious. Eric decided to smoke a pork shoulder on Saturday night and we had round one of BBQ nachos for dinner.

Sunday morning Eric did his chores....mowing, weed eating, edging, etc.  It was the first time he'd had to mow this year, and the yard looks 100% better now that he has. We had Easter lunch with his grandma and uncle and took a plate to his dad who is still in the hospital with his foot issues.  They've moved him to long term care until is foot is completely healed, and he is so much better than he was a week ago. Sunday afternoon was spent putting up a railing at Eric's mom's house so she could get in and out when there's no one there.  We took the dogs with us and they had a blast running around in the country.

Instead of an Easter Ham for dinner we had Round 2 of BBQ nachos.....it's still from a pig so it counts, right?  Eric decided he HAD to go see if he could catch some more fish, so I snuggled up on the couch with the pups and watch some more basketball, and saw Baylor's women get upset by Louisville's women!  One of the most exciting games I've seen in a while. Louisville deserved good things to happen to them after the injury to one of the guys on their men's team earlier on Sunday.  If you aren't squeamish, look it up...if you are, don't.

It kinda scares me that I think I am ready to be back at work this week.  As much as I love to play, I enjoy having some structure in my life! Although check back with me in a day or 2 and I will be ready for another break I am sure. =)

Update

First things first.  My bracket is about 85% busted at this point.  However, Ohio State is holding in there for me, and squeaked by Arizona by 3 last night to keep me alive.  My only other hope to win points is for Louisville to make it to the Final Four.....woo Cardinals! I must say I am excited about another weekend of great basketball!

Today I am back to the real world after a nearly week long hiatus from life.  We decided we needed to take a Spring Break this year and headed down to the Gulf of Mexico to spend some time with friends and family. It may not have been the warmest spring break on record (in fact it was probably colder than Destin 2010, which was pretty darn cold), but we certainly made the most of it.  Lot's of laughing, lots of family time, a little work thrown in (mostly by the boys) but mostly an all around good time.  I really was not ready to leave yesterday.  We prolonged it as long we could, and didn't leave until 5:00pm...thank goodness we only live a few hours away!  I will have a full recap next week, but I think I hear a second cup of coffee is calling my name.

Can I go back now?

Cagles!

Please be nice to me today reality, k?
