Wedding ABC's Part 3 of 5

This the latest installment of my Wedding ABC's.  This week's post includes letters K-O.  In case you missed my posts from the 2 previous week here are links to Letters A-E and Letters F-J.

Keepsakes
I decided I wanted to DIY our wedding favors.  One of our favors was a crossword puzzle that I created that had clues about Eric and I.  The other were Hershey Kisses that we put yellow and blue stickers that had either our names, our wedding date or a C on them.  For the guest book we had a frame for guests to sign that I put a picture of us in.

Ladies Night
My bachelorette party was fun and completely laid back night out in the Gump—Just my style!

Music
For our first dance we had one of Eric’s college teammates play the guitar and sing “When you Say Nothing at All” by Allison Krauss.  It was perfect.

We had an awesome DJ, who coincidentally was also our photographer. We used David Wiseman Photography and DJ.  He gave us a great deal to do both! I don’t think we really sat down.  I learned at our wedding that my family LOVES to dance.  Some of the highlights:  I danced with my grandma to Lady Gaga, my dad did the robot, and my grandpa got on the dance floor and started waving his cane in the air.  It was priceless!

Next Day
I think one of the best decisions we made was not leaving for our Honeymoon until Monday morning.  This gave us an opportunity to go by the hotel to say good-bye to our out-of-town guests (my entire family who came from all over the country).  We were also able to take care of our dogs and pack without the stress of the wedding on our shoulders.

What he did while I packed.

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
My jewelry was old, my dress and veil and shoes were new, I had a six-pence that my mom let me borrow that one of her friends gave to her when she got married, and my garter was blue.

New Baby Card Designs

In addition to all of the weddings we have gone to lately, I have been to several baby showers in the past few months.  Baby cards are always fun to make, plus the color schemes are pretty cut and dry which makes the picking out the card color scheme pretty easy.

A few months ago, Mom gave me a Sizzix folder to use with my Cuttlebug that gives paper a quilted look.  She also taught me a technique to use with the quilted folder that involves punching out small squares or circles and placing them in patterns to enhance the quilted look. I have also really been into the technique of "flecking."  It's where you brush the sides of the paper with a sponge that has been dabbed on a stamp pad.  I like the antique look that it gives cards; I also like that it adds dimension to the cards so they do not look like pieces of paper cut out and stuck together.

Baby boy card

Inside reads:
A baby boy's a promise
Of happy things to come-
Building blocks, a rocking horse
A baseball glove, a drum.

There'll be lots of notice and action
You'll be brim-full of pride
A busy, loving, fun-filled home
With lots of joy inside.

Baby Girl card

Inside reads:
Little girls are precious gifts,
Wrapped in love serene.
Their dresses tied with sashes
And futures tied with dreams

Wiffle Ball and Salsa Weekend

Another weekend on the books.  After a long holiday weekend last weekend, we were ready for a relaxing weekend at home.  Of course with us, something is bound to come up and we usually end up out and about.  This weekend was no different.  Saturday we spent some time at the river, Eric was there all day long --I only stayed a couple of hours.  After we got back from the river we went to some friends' house for a fish fry/game night.  This was not your average board game night like I thought it would be....  We played modified version wiffle ball in the yard! We used a wiffle ball bat, but we had a large foam ball that was quite difficult to hit, and played kick ball rules where you could peg runners with the ball to get them out.   It was so much fun!  I am proud to report that my team, The Tiger Sharks, beat Auburn (Eric's team) 9-8.  Although I believe team Auburn wants a rematch.....bring it on!

Sunday after church we had lunch at Eric's grandma's house and headed to some friends' house to can some salsa!  I don't think we used an actual recipe, just threw together some tomatoes, onions, and a chopped up mixture that contained several kinds of peppers, garlic, cumin, oregano, cilantro and a little salt.  It had a bit of a kick to it, but it had a great flavor!  We ended up with several jars so we will be eating it for a while!

Salsa!

Sealing the cans

I also made a batch of fresh pico de gallo to munch on.  The reason I started my salsa garden this year, was so that I could make fresh pico all summer long.  I made a batch that we took to the beach with us last weekend, which we polished off pretty quickly.  I did not quite have enough ripe tomatoes to make another large batch, but one of Eric's customers gave him 3 HUGE tomatoes last week, so I added them to the mix.

I found a great pico recipe last summer that I have used several times over.

2-3 large tomatoes
1 medium onion
1 jalapeno
3/4 cup fresh cilantro
1/4-1/2 cup green onions
~3/4 cup Italian Dressing

Slice tomatoes and remove the juicy insides.  Chop tomato slices in to small pieces. Chop onion into small pieces comparable to tomato pieces.  Slice open jalapeno and remove seeds.  Chop into small pieces comparable to tomato and onion pieces. Chop cilantro and green onions.  Combine first five ingredients in a bowl and toss to mix.  Pour Italian Dressing into mixture and stir to coat, you can add more dressing if you want .  Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours.  The longer it sits, the better it tastes!

The finished product.....I apologize for the photo quality, the colors are not quite what they are in person.

Happy Cow Appreciation Day!

In case you were unaware today is Chik-fil-a's Cow Appreciation Day!  They have a promo today that if you dress up as a cow you get FREE food.  If you have a partial costume you get a free entree, but if you go all out you get a free meal.  Of course Michelle and I decided to go all out to get our free lunches! Wouldn't you if you worked in a building that had a Chik-fil-a in it?!?!?

We had it all: spots, ears snouts (cleverly attached to our shades), even cow bells!

Don't forget your tail!

We're adorable, we know.

We will also do crazy things for free food!  Thanks Chik-fil-a!
