The McCrucher

I've been traveling a lot the past few weeks for work which means going to all four corners of the state and going to through every random town in between to get to those corners.  During one of my first trips up to north Alabama I had to run in to a McDonald's for a pit stop.  As I was walking in I noticed a picture of a new $1 burger with white cheese and onion straws in one of the windows.  It was a new burger called the McCruncher.  I was intrigued, even though I tend to shy away from cheeseburgers in favor of hamburgers (usually ones NOT from Micky D's).   But it was 8AM when I stopped so I could not try it. I started looking at every McDonald's I passed to see if they had it and saw it in another Micky D's in the Tri-Cities in North Alabama, but unfortunately it was too early to get one when I passed that one, too.

That was 2 weeks ago, and I had been on 3 other trips since then, had no luck and came to the conclusion that the McCruncher is clearly a test market product and was NOT being test marketed in Southeast Alabama.  I had to go back up to North Alabama this week and I finally hit the jackpot!  I found it at the Micky D's in the lil town of Anniston, Alabama.  Of course I had to try one!

it did not quite look like the ad

I am pleased to report that it was pretty good. Yes it was a McDonald's hamburger.  I don't make a habit of eating them, but when I am on the road I don't have a choice most of the time (especially in small obscure towns). It was a regular McDonald's burger with a slice of white cheddar cheese, onion straws, and a Chipotle Ranch sauce.  The sauce has a nice kick to it which gives it a different taste.

Would I order it again?  Yes.  Will it make me go to McDonald's more than once every 6 months (or sometime other than when I am on the road)?  Probably not.
